Ahead of their headline show for Deco Records tomorrow at The Railway, West Didsbury, Manchester rock trio War Stripes and headlines spoke to us before they tear up the stage about the latest plans, gig preparations and the Manchester music scene.
MIMR: Great to have you on the blog, what’s the latest with the band?
Aaron: Cheers for having us!
Ciro: At the moment we’re finishing off a huge run of gigs and are currently working on new material and branching outside of Manchester… spreading our seed into as many ears as we can.
Billy: what Ciro said and recording an EP in the next few weeks.
MIMR: You play for Deco Records this friday at their monthly residency At The Railway with some great bands, how would you normally prepare for a gig?
Aaron: I’m usually pretty excitable all day until about an hour before when the nerves kick in! I’m glad I get them though, it means i’m alive!
Ciro: Me personally, i just go over the songs and chill out for the rest of the day. Pretty boring but you don’t wanna over think it otherwise you won’t be able to function properly… true story.
Billy: practice through the week, shit myself on the day as I always get nervous but In a good adrenaline pumped kind of way and have a bottle of Budweiser (usually ends up being a good few ha ha).
MIMR: What’s been your most memorable gig so far as a band?
Aaron: Our first headline gig at retro was a good one! Having friends and family down to watch was pretty special. So much love in the room.
Ciro: My most memorable gig is when my strap broke off mid song in Runcorn and I had to play rest of the set sitting down lol I like to think I styled it out lol.
Billy: In terms of a good kind of memorable I’d have to say my first gig with the lads! (Night and Day Cafe) We got on stage at night and day and we just smashed it! Everything worked and we gelled pretty damn well from the off, it’s been mental ever since and I’m loving it. Bad memory probably in Salford as the kit seemed to fall apart mid set 😂
MIMR: What do you think of the music scene in Manchester at the moment, do you agree that it is as strong as it’s even been?
Aaron: Yeah, playing in a band makes you appreciate how many great bands there are in Manchester right now. We’re all supportive of each other and it just makes us wanna try harder!
Ciro: I think that there’s loads of really great bands being born every day. What’s a shame about the scene is all the small venues that are closing, like ruby lounge and Sound Control. Making it harder for these bands to get any live exposure and play bigger stages like Manchester Academy.
Billy: being scouse I hate to admit it but it’s boss, so many bands are trying to make it and supporting one another
It’s like a quaint tight knit community that I’m buzzing to be apart of.
MIMR: Thanks again for dropping by, have a great gig on friday. How can people follow you on social media?
Ciro: You can find us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Just search warstripesband
Billy: what he said, but if you @bilbasaurrr that’s my personal account…. ladies ha ha.
