We’re only a day away now from the latest Deco Records residency gig at The Railway and another band that will be gracing the stage in Didsbury are the brilliant Valetta who in short space of time have become one of MIMR’s best new discoveries.
We spoke to Alex from the band ahead of tomorrow night’s gig about their future plans and collaborations
MIMR: It’s a real pleasure to have you on the blog, how best would you describe your music and was it clear from the start what direction your sound would take?
Alex: Thank you for having us. I suppose we’d would say we’re an indie/alternative rock band who are dipping our toes in the psychedelic pool. At the beginning we were pretty much playing whatever tunes we’d written most recently. I (Alex) always think I have an idea of what direction we’re headed in before an idea or song comes in changes it. There’s a lot of strange music in the pipeline.
MIMR: What’s the latest with the band?
Alex: We’ve recently released our first publicly available music, a live session of our track ‘My Life Is Better Than Your Life’. We’ve got two more songs from that session on the way too, the next one will be out in a couple of weeks. Needless to say, it’s brilliant. On top of the Deco showcase we’re playing local shows at Retro bar on 11th September and the Castle on the 28th.
MIMR: Thrilled to see you on the next Deco showcase gig at The Railway this friday, what’s your favourite thing about playing live?
Alex: When a song you’ve been playing for months suddenly take on a new life, and you have no idea where it came from or why. Also, for me (Alex), singing feels totally different when it’s to a crowd. For better or for worse the words are always belted out that bit louder.
MIMR: If they’re was on artist/band you could collaborate with, who would it be and why?
Alex: I’d be happy to play second triangle on any Jonny Greenwood film score.
MIMR: If you went on a huge tour what would be the essential supplies that you would take with you?
Alex: A portable speaker for anytime rockin-out, and an eye mask for anytime sleepin.
MIMR: Thanks for talking to MIMR, have a great gig on friday. How can people follow you on social media?
Alex: People can follow us on Facebook and Instagram, and they should.
MIMR: Here’s also a recent live video i recommend you check out!
