The headline act at Deco Records next gig at The Railway this friday, Fighting Rhythm are ready to strut their stuff and unleash their noise on some new followers, MIMR included.
We spoke to the band to find out more.
MIMR: Great to have another brand new band on the blog, who are Fighting Rhythm and how best would you describe your sound?
FR: We are a 4 piece garage punk band hailing from the depths of rural Lancashire, made up of Jack on vocals, Russ on guitar, Sean on synth and Dale on drums.
Our sound…it’s definitely a merge of our own personal tastes. The foundation of Fighting Rhythm is built upon punk and its sub genres. The current resurgence of the genre has had a huge impact on us all. We’re all big fans of bands like IDLES, Shame, Fontaines D.C., but there’s other elements and influences that we try to work in when writing. Russ is a big fan of Ty Segal, alot of the material he writes has a very fuzzy garage rock feel about it, whereas Sean takes a lot of inspiration from the likes of One Day as a Lion, especially when it comes to creating new synth sounds.
With regards to our sound live, it’s BIG. It’s not fucking around.
MIMR: Looking forward to seeing you in action at the Deco Records showcase, what can we expect from one of your live shows?
FR: Energy, passion, inclusivity, sweat, hysteria, honesty… Overall, a dynamic 40 minutes of music loaded with good times and strong words.
MIMR: What can we expect from the band for the rest of this year?
FR: We’re putting all of our focus currently into writing new material. We’ve also been working on getting some of our set up to scratch, ready for recording this October (release date to be announced soon). There’s a couple more shows we’re planning to see out 2019 but 2020 we’ll be hitting it hard. There’s already talk of touring with some potentially big dates on the cards.
MIMR: What music venues around would like to perform at?
FS: Jimmy’s have recently opened a new venue in Liverpool, it would be sweet to get a show there or at Jimmy’s in Manchester. Where else… Manchester’s Albert Hall, 100 Club in London, Wembley Stadium, Madison Square gardens… the usual.
MIMR: If you could tour with any band, which one would it be and why?
Each of us has our own answer to this question, so…
Jack – I am The Levellers undisputed number one fan. I would do ANYTHING to tour with them.
Dale – Tough question, there’s a tonne of bands I’d love to tour with. Fontaines D.C. have released my favourite record of the year so far, so for that reason I’ll go with them.
Sean – Right now, I’d choose Foals. Everything not saved will be lost part 1 is a banger! If you’re reading this Yannis, we’re up for supporting you on your next tour!
Russ – Rage against the machine. One of the greatest bands of all time. Who wouldn’t want to play before that band every night, protesting about all the shit that’s going on!
MIMR: Thanks for chatting to us, we look forward to Deco gig. How can people follow you on social media?
