MIMR spoke to the band about their influences, the upcoming gigs in Manchester and Kylie.
MIMR: Great to have you on MIMR, who are Sweetness and what are your main influences that help create your sound?
Aedan: Sweetness consists of me (Aedan) on guitar/lead vocals, Jacob on Bass, and Ryan on Drums. Our influences are varied but come from a shared interest in certain genres, such as 80’s jangle including The Pretenders and The Smiths, as well as 1950’s and 60’s Rock n’ Roll; Bobby Darin and Elvis (Presley) to name a couple. There is also a slightly heavier/ more alternative interest amongst us, with a love for Joy Division and Iggy pop, which you can hear in places across all our music.
MIMR: MIMR is raving about your recent single ‘Pretty’ how was it produced and can we expect more releases in the near future?
Aedan: Pretty was produced by well-known local producer Alan Smyth at 2Fly Studios, who we have worked with for all our recordings. However, the song was arranged by ourselves and written by Aedan. Our newest single, (which we are very excited for) ‘Sing, Don’t Shout’, will be out in the coming weeks, and showcases more of the rock n’ roll influences.
MIMR: I see you’ve got some cool gigs lined up in Manchester, tell us more about these gigs and are you excited to play gigs in the city?
Aedan: We are very excited to be breaking into Manchester, as many of our musical Inspirations are Manchester based and we are beginning to expand our fanbase to the city, and as such are looking forward to both August 22nd at AATMA and October 19th at Gulliver’s as they are both fantastic venues, and we hope that these will be the first of many Manc gigs to come.
MIMR: Do have any of the band have any guilty pleasures when it comes to music they like?
Aedan: Jacob insists that Kylie Minogue is NOT a guilty pleasure, though some may beg to differ.
MIMR: What’s the favourite gig venue you’ve played in?
Aedan – It may sound cheesy, but our upcoming gigs in Manchester are looking like they’ll be amazing so I’m going to cheat slightly and say those (though I do also love Café Totem in Sheffield).
Ryan – The Leadmill in Sheffield, as it is both Iconic and our closest massive venue.
Jacob – The O2 in Sheffield, as we have graced stages played by the likes of (you guessed it) Kylie Minogue from the Roxy days and an Elvis Presley fronted Nirvana tribute (Elvana).
MIMR: Thanks for chatting to MIMR, how can people follow you on social media and check out your music?
Aedan: We absolutely love the fact you guys like Pretty, and hope you equally love our upcoming single Sing, Don’t Shout (out soon we promise).
