Having released one of MIMR’s standout records of this year so far, electro-punk duo Cassette Apes are shouting from the rooftops with their ear bursting, manic and mesmerising sound.
MIMR spoke to the band ahead of their show with Deco Records this friday.
MIMR: It’s great to have you on the blog, how best would you describe your music and what are the main influences you have in creating your sound?
MIMR: Tell us about the album you’ve recently released, MIMR has picked it out as one of the best so far this year, are you happy with the reception it’s gained?
CA: The album is our debut full length. We recorded the album ourselves at our own studio throughout the back end of last year. A number of the tracks are re-recorded versions available on the E.Ps ‘Explicit Content’ and ‘Never Tweet Your Heroes’ which were previously released through German Shepherd Records. We have been thrilled with the reception so far and we thank everyone who has grabbed a copy, physically and/or digitally. We held a release party in our home town of Buxton which was an overwhelming success. We will continue promotion for the record throughout the summer.
MIMR: Now we’re all looking forward to your upcoming show with Deco Records at The Railway, what’s your favourite thing about playing live?
CA: Our favourite part of playing live is without a doubt audience participation and sing a longs! The feeling when you hear your lyrics screamed back at you is indescribable. But playing live is also the bands bread and butter and out main way of getting our name out there. Being from a small town in the north west, Buxton, the only way we can get on the radar is by hitting the road and getting out there. We’ve performed close to 200 shows across the country in the past two and half years and met some truly amazing people along the way.
MIMR: If you could pick one band you would love to tour with past or present who would it be and why?
CA: That’s a very tough question. There’s so many bands and for so many reasons but one that stands out to both of us is Beastie Boys. Particularly if we could’ve been the opening for the infamous Madonna/Beastie Boys tour of 1985! They are a huge influence in what we do especially the eclectic sound they’re known for.
MIMR: Thanks for dropping by and talking to MIMR, see you at The Railway. How can people follow you on social media and listen to the record?
CA: People can check out Cassette Apes on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at @cassetteapes
And the album can be bought in CD format from
