MIMR Review: Eitha Da ‘Voma’

Eitha Da – translated into english as ‘Pretty Good’ is the new DIY project by the talented multi-instrumentalist Ben Dempsey Sawin and ‘Voma’ is a thrill a second record.

Whilst exploring different methods and recording styles in dusty garages in wrexham mid 2017 Eitha Da is a garage-fuzz crusade into the depths of a beast that finally has awoken.

This collection of 10 short bursts of electric fuzz – it really is blink and you’ll miss it – bursts into life with the cintilating ‘That Mountain is Evil, That Mountain is Yours’ which is the perfect prelude of what delights there are to follow. Gold is a burning grunge-like affair with some intricate and thrilling riffs to boot and gets MIMR juices flowing.

Other notable highlights of the record are the brilliant Laserbrain a track that combines vicious guitars and echoing vocals to make a haunting and enchanting sound. She Shoots, She Scores hits the back of the net with great gusto with storming beats creating a whirlwind which its hard not to be stirred by.

Southern Fried Ruthin was the teaser track/lead single to ‘Voma’ and has gained notable attention from BBC Radio Wales as well as BBC introducing and rightly so, coming in at just over 90 seconds it packs a punch and it’s fuzziness is cranked up to the max.

By the time you’ve whizzed throught to the closer track O.I.C.C.M.L it’s clear that you’ve undertaken a journey that has included many grateful rewards along the way. It just shows through great adversity that some good can come of it, pretty good you could say.

Voma is out now and available here:
