One of MIMR best finds of 2016 are Shoegaze quartet Colour of Spring from Leeds. Having already featured on MIMR Playlist and Gig Gallery after their recent show in Manchester last month i can only imagine that after this Band you will be sure to want to find out more about these guys, they’ve made big waves on the blog already.
I spoke to the band about their plans for 2016 and more…
MIMR: Great to have Colour of Spring on MIMR, how would you best describe the band and what influences do you have on your music?
We definitely have a shoegaze-esque feel, but we feel that can sometimes fall short of a true description. We definitely have Shoegaze influences like Slowdive, The Jesus & Mary Chain and Ride but we also like a lot of 80’s pop and folk music. We have a real foundation rooted in writing well-structured songs before we start laying up the ‘wall of noise’ soundscape.
We just want to make music that we’d want to listen to!
MIMR: Tell us about the new single, what’s it about and how can we can get our hands on it?
COS: The new single is called “Pillow” and it’s kind of an amalgamation of a bunch of lyrics and ideas I had during my first year at University. It’s a lot to do with anxiety and how I dealt with that. We’ve sold out of 7″ but there are still plenty of handmade CDs and it’s available to download at Swirly Records bandcamp.
MIMR: You must be set for plenty of live shows this year, what’s the best thing about playing live?
COS: For me there should be a distinct difference between a live show and a record, they are two different beasts. There’s a lot more energy and spontaneity in a live show, you think on your toes and no matter how many times you play a song live – it’s different every time.
MIMR: What can we expect from the band for the rest of 2016?
MIMR: Thanks for joining us on MIMR, wish you all the best for this year. Do any of you have any pre-gig routines or superstitions?
MIMR: Thanks for having us. Nothing too crazy! Occasionally the odd acapella rendition of 90s cartoon show themes, remember Ducktails? We do that.
