The last Band Chat of the year introduces you to Italian Alt-Rock band ClayToRide. Their album ‘Glass Vessels’ featured in the MIMR best albums of 2015 list and this honour is well deserved
I spoke to the threesome about their year and what to expect in 2016
MIMR: Welcome to MIMR, to anyone who havent heard you before, whats your sound and what influences your music?
CTR: The entire soul of the album hails from the fragility of our days, to the changeableness of the human life and conditions, to “the times they are a changing”, as Dylan said. It’s a mixture of rage taken from the hardcore sound, poetry from the classics, warm sounds from the blues and cooler sounds just coming from our experience.
MIMR: Its been a busy year for you guys, tell us about the album, how did it come about and what has been the reaction to the record. MIMR is very impressed by the album btw.
CTR: We always love to tell how we work on our stuff. After the first listen in the studio, we always have the “first trial” into Matteo’s car, just for listen how the album sounds in a normal stereo. We remember that, after have listened to the album for the first time, we stared at each other for a while and then we said: “Wow! Ok, we got it!”. It always seems that is the sound that catches us, and not the contrary. By the way, the first effect caused by the album was a general kind of flashback that reminded us all the situation lived together while we were writing our songs down. Sometimes it was funny, sometimes was less, sometimes both of these feelings of happiness and melancholy, especially for the song “Turn out the light” which is dedicated to a friend of us who passed away.
MIMR: What kind of music have the band been listening to this year?
CTR: All three of us have different musical tastes but bands such as Refused, Kings of Leon, The Dead Weather, Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo and The Doors still have a place on our hearts, not only because we love them, but also they have radically influenced our sound.
MIMR: What does the future hold for the band?
CTR: We hope to get a serious label as soon as possible. We hope to still have the same collaborators, partners, friends and mates that keep close by our side. We have a lot of ideas to realize and we are hungry to do, hungry to play and we are made of them and we cannot do anything without their help.
MIMR: Thanks again for chatting to us, do you have any new years resolutions?
CTR: 2016 will be the year of our first time out from the Italian borders. We will have a tour of 10 gigs through Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland. Of course, we won’t stop touring in Italy! We have also another EP at work, ready to come out for the new year and a lot of will to play wherever as much as possible.
