We here at MIMR are excited to feature indie-pop quartet Get Inuit who will grace the stage at this years ACP festival in Manchester. Hotly-tipped by many to make it big they are sure to be one of the must-see sets of the weekend
I spoke with Jamie from the band about their musical influences and the festival
MIMR: Welcome to MIMR, can you tell us who are Get Inuit and what influences the music you play?
Jamie: Thank you for having us! As far as we are aware, Get Inuit is a Frankenstein monster of melodic hooks, off kilter pengs and nostalgic crunch. From Beach Boys to NIN, our influences are simply the music we love. We often get comparisons to bands like Weezer, Blondie, Fidlar, Wavves etc.
MIMR: How has 2015 been so far for the band? and tell us about the Luge Lessons EP out next month
Jamie: It’s been pretty hectic. We released our debut ep “001” on Alcopop Records at the beginning of the year and have been playing shows all over the isle of Britishland to support it. Highlights to name a mere few were playing huge festivals like Y Not, Bestival, 2000 Trees and BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. All of which were festivals that we had been to before the band as music lovers.
“Luge Lessons” is a continuation of the sound that we started with the first release. I personally feel that the 4 songs chosen all have completely different characteristics and vibes but work so well together. I think our songwriting goes from our most anthemic point, to our darkest point. From our most frantic, to our most vulnerable. We really wanted to push ourselves outside of our comfy box whilst still keeping together the components of what makes a Get Inuit song.
MIMR: What can the Manchester crowd at ACP Festival expect from your live show?
Jamie: Oh we bring the thunder baby! Loud but warm. In your face but kissing your cheek.
MIMR: What would you say has been the best gig venue you’ve played as a band?
Jamie: We was extremely fortunate to play a Club NME show at the Koko in London earlier this year (yet another highlight). It was a huge venue with such a lovely sound crew and staff. Playing to a packed crowd on an iconic stage. I think we all lived out a few lifelong dreams that night. Perfection!
MIMR: Thanks a lot for talking to us on MIMR, look forward to featuring you on the blog over the ACP festival weekend. What do the band do in your spare time away from playing gigs?
Jamie: In today’s economic climate, we all spend our spare time trying to earn as much money as possible to help fund the band. I’m a music teacher, Robert is an extremely talented graphic designer, Oliver refurbishes mansions and then lives in them with underwear models and James is an immensely talented producer (he records and produces all of our music, the clever bugger. We work hard with the prospect of one day hardly working. Like that quote from Shrek 2. I love that movie! Almost better than the first.
New single ‘‘I Am The Hot Air’ is out now and features on their new EP ‘Luge Lessons out Oct 16th
