Today on MIMR Band Chat were bring to you Manchester Rock duo Duke Mercury. Having only recently seen these guys for the 1st time it’s say to say that they pack a punch and it’s a enthralling ride you won’t want to leave early
I spoke to Connor from the band about the debut single, playing in Manchester and the threesome rumours
MIMR: Thanks for talking to MIMR who are Duke Mercury? And was it apparent from the early days what direction your music would take?
Connor: Well Duke Mercury is Connor & Liam who happen to not be any good at anything else so we decided to do this. We actually tried to be a Dubstep duo a couple of years back but we realised we’re scared of electronic music MIMR: What’s the latest with the band?
Connor: Well we’re just about to embark on our very first tour in a couple of weeks in support of our debut single ‘Let’s build a den’. We’ve also been put on Y Not festival for some reason and Liverpool Sound City as well. We’ve been asked to play one of the ‘Fringe’ venues for Tramlines festival, but we’re not sure if that’s someone pulling our leg. What the bloody hell is a ‘fringe venue’?!
Connor: Well most of our friends got real jobs and most takeaways only do a meal deal for two. It was a no brainer. Also we’re both dead handsome MIMR: What’s your favourite venue in Manchester to gig or to watch a gig?
Connor: Well we’d say Bridgewater Hall overall has the best sound but our favourite has to be the Gmex (or whatever the bloody hell it’s called now). It’s like being in a warehouse filled with 57 million other people.
MIMR: Do you have a favourite song that pumps you up before a gig?
Connor: We love ‘Hooked on a Feeling’ by Blue Swede, there’s no better feeling than coming on to stage to Swedish pop. Also ABBA
MIMR: What bands around at the moment do you admire?
Connor: We saw Cleft a couple of times recently and they blew us away. You can definitely hear a few ‘trying to be Cleft but not quite there’ parts in our newer stuff. Also ‘Falls’ are absolutely immense, for us they have replaced Pulled Apart By Horses in our best band ever category. Yes we have those MIMR: Are the reports true that you once had a Cherryade and chicken fuelled threesome with Jennifer Lawrence?
Connor: No Comment
MIMR: Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, do you have any strange or funny stories from any previous gigs you can share with MIMR? Connor: We had a gig in Cumbria a couple of months back and this middle aged fella kept calling us ugly and showing us his balls. He also said our music wasn’t shit, it was one of the most inspiring moments of our lives. Thanks Dad
