In the first of a series of Band Chats featuring acts playing this year’s Dot 2 Dot festival, MIMR introduces Manchester band Pins. The all-girl foursome have been one of the most talked about bands of 2015 and MIMR is looking forward to catching them live at the festival on the 22nd May
I spoke to Faith from the band about the new album, festivals and her summer playlist selection
MIMR: Thanks for talking to MIMR, safe to say this year already has been pretty busy for the band, what’s been your favourite moment of 2015 so far?
Faith: We did 3 dates in tiny venues in February and we played the whole of the new album, we’ve been sat on the songs since recording it late last year so it was sweet to finally share them. Also we played ‘Drill’ live with Wire live in Bristol!
MIMR: Tell MIMR about the new album, what was the process taken in creating ‘Wild Nights’?
Faith: We went out to Joshua Tree in California for 7 days and worked closely with Dave Catching and Hayden Scott at Rancho De La Luna. We arrived at about 3am, Dave welcomed us with a glass of wine and i knew we were going to get on. The next day we set up and started to record, i think we did three songs on the first day. Dave has a tonne of old instruments, guitar pedals, mic and amps.. we just told him what sort of sound we wanted and he made it happen, there was a lot of ‘I want it more Velvet Undeground-esque’ or ‘more Jesus and Mary Chain’ you know… It was our first time working with a producer and it was perfect.
MIMR: The festival season is approaching and your playing at a few this year including Dot to Dot on 22nd May, what’s the best thing about playing a festival?
Faith: getting free entry to the festival, being able to catch lot’s of bands, hanging out with our friends, taking secret stealthier with famous people.
MIMR: There’s so many great music venues in Manchester, which ones are your favourites to play?
Faith: I like playing at the Deaf institute, the high stage, red velvet curtains, giant disco ball and beautiful wallpaper. I don’t like playing in industrial looking venues, I like old buildings especially theatres and ballrooms. I went to see MONEY play at the Dancehouse Theatre in Manchester and thought to myself that PINS need to get a show there some day.
MIMR: Thanks again for talking to us, summertime will be here very soon (not like we will get much of one with the Manchester weather :p) which songs would be your picks for a summer playlist?
Faith: Nice to talk to you too. Summer playlist.. Mike Donovan – Do Do Ya WAVVES – King Of The Beach, Harlem – Gay Human bones, Crocodiles – Summer of Hate, Hinds – Bamboo, Thee Oh Sees – Warm Slime, king khan – Too Much in Love, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Slow Jam
