Flying the flag for South Wales on MIMR are Cardiff 5 piece The Echo and The Always. They embark on exciting times as a band, spreading their indie-pop to many more followers. They also appear at this year’s Focus Wales, their thoughts on the festival are discussed in this Band Chat as well as the latest news and their festival playlist choices
MIMR: Hey, so whats the latest news with the band? Has 2015 been kind to you so far?
TEATA: 2015 has been very kind to us so far. We have lots going on ‘behind the scenes’ as we prepare to launch our debut album which we have just finished recording. We signed with Cardiff label ‘Jealous Lover’s Club’ who are helping us plan future releases and shows….so stay tuned.
MIMR: Whats the best thing about being part of such a festival like Focus Wales?
TEATA: Focus Wales is an incredible festival put on by a great group of people who really care about the Welsh music scene and bringing great international acts to Wrexham. The calibre of artists is superb. This is our third time playing as ‘The Echo and the Always’ and it’s a real honour for us to have been part of such a fantastic festival for so long. For us, discovering new bands and meeting up with old friends is something we look forward to all year. It is also a great opportunity to network and build new audiences, and the Focus Wales audiences in particular are brilliant because they are so attentive and clearly there for the music. This year we’re particularly excited to see Bo Ningen, Darren Eedens, Baby Brave and Future of the Left.
MIMR: Do you have any funny festival stories? Whether it be in a band or as a fan?
TEATA: Last year we played the Focus Wales afterparty at Un Deg Un with We Are Animal and ended up hanging out with Ritzy and Rhydian which was a definite highlight. Also, we have a developed a special Focus Wales tradition where we go to a great local Indian Restaurant and after a delicious meal we play a trick on John (who is easily embarrassed) by having the staff bring out birthday cake with a candle and sing happy birthday to him even though it’s not his birthday. If anyone has any ideas about how to make his unbirthday even more special (read: embarrassing) please let us know!
MIMR: Thanks for your time, MIMR looks forward to your set at Focus Wales. What songs would be a must on your own personal festival playlist?
TEATA: For our playlist we asked everyone in the band to put forward one song….
Laura – Death Cab for Cutie – The Ghost of Beverly Drive
Angela – Citizens! – True Romance
John – Weezer – Island in the Sun
Dean – Sleepwalking – The Chain Gang of 1974
Edd – Bombay Bicycle Club – Always Like This
MIMR look forward to seeing The Echo and The Always on Friday 24th April at Focus Wales festival
