Slaves ‘Feed The Mantaray’
The Punk duo from Kent return to the playlist with their latest offering which is taken from their much anticipated debut album ‘Are You Satisfied’ out June 1st. Their raw, gritty sound comes to the forefront on this track and MIMR is looking forward to seeing these chaps at Focus Wales in April, I reckon they will storm it!
Sundara karma ‘Loveblood’
Next on the playlist are the excellent talents of Sundara Karma. These Reading indie teens are making great strides with their powerful, atmospheric indie vibes. With a recently released EP ‘EP1’ now under their belts they look certain to continue their journey and there on the right track says MIMR
Black Honey ‘Madonna’
Another band I’m looking forward to seeing at Focus Wales are Black Honey, who are fast becoming one of many peoples fave new bands of 2015. New single ‘Madonna’ is a double A-side release out in April and it great addition to what should be a great set. Their rocky sound is beefed up on this track so please make sure you turn the volume on this to the max!
Marika Hackman ‘Open Wide’
A lady who is turning heads at the moment is the mesmerising vocals of miss Marika Hackmann. MIMR could of chosen any song from debut album ‘We Slept At Last’ released 16th Feb to feature on the playlist. ‘Open Wide is a great track, perfectly delivered and nu-folk at its very best. Marika has admitted that ‘she is drawn to the darker melancholic side of things’ and this is a pretty swell thing’
Houdini Dax ‘Apple Tree’
Closing this week’s MIMR playlist is Houdini Dax, a band who MIMR think have a got a very bright future indeed. This new single ‘Apple Tree’ certainly increases this fact and presses all the right buttons. Released 1st March it’s a no nonsense, rock n roll anthem with ferocious power pop vibes and electrifying and clever lyrics. These guys from Cardiff watch out for them, you’ve been told!
With the Focus Wales Festival less than 2 months away MIMR is here to guide you through the 1st group of bands to check out whilst at the festival. The blog will be over all 4 days of the extravaganza in Wrexham in April, with the best coverage, lots of interviews and all the latest news.
Here’s Part 1:
Future of The Left
Part 2 will be up in a few weeks, check out all the artists that are playing at Focus Wales here:
This London trio have graced us with a fantastic record early on in 2015 which can easily already be placed in a end of the year best of. ‘Scatter’ is a current MIMR favourite, released earlier this month, this 10 track album showcases everything that Crushed Beaks have to offer, a true indie band and so much more. Vocals to put a smile on your face and great guitar riffs aplenty give the album a rightful place in anyone’s record collection. I featured Crushed Beaks on a recent MIMR playlist with track ‘Overgrown’ hitting the mark but that’s only scratching the surface of what is a great record. It’s upwards and onwards for these guys and no doubt about it
If you’ve been following the blog via my Twitter you would know that I was at The Maydays EP launch night on Saturday. It was a great night with a great crowd. MIMR has featured the band a lot of late to coincide with their New EP, which MIMR can confirm is a must have purchase with all 3 tracks very well produced. Here are a selection of photos from the gig, MIMR will feature the band again very soon
This London four piece have made a big impression on the indie scene and their popularity is constantly growing by the day. Now is the time to add that they are all only 16 years old and have already shared the stage with British Ska legends ‘The Specials’, not a bad thing to put on your CV. But these smartly dressed young maestros have already got a job for a very long time in the musical spotlight if they’re Mod-esque, cutting sound has anything to go by and with one EP ‘Simplicity’ in the bag already, much more success is bound to follow in a promising future, The Tones are here to stay
Telegram ‘Inside Outside’
The new single from Glam rockers and MIMR favourites ‘Telegram’ is released on 9th March. It’s further indication of a band with a great knack of making cool music in the purest form. This being part of record label compilation (Speedy Wunderground) still leaves us begging for a full length release from these guys. The track expresses the mix between the classic Psych/Rock signature that make Telegram who they are along with a softer more measured approach. They remain a band that MIMR will be keeping a very close eye on
Everything Everything ‘Distant past’
Manchester’s ‘Everything Everything’ announce the news that will bring joy to many people who appreciate their masterful electronic/indie rock that they have displayed on their previous two records. Their 3rd Album ‘Get To Heaven’ is released 13th June and this track shows the next stage in their journey as a band, funky beats throughout mixed with rich and varied vocal display. ‘Everything Everything ‘ have everything and much more believe you me!
Blur ‘Go Out’
Now this is the moment that is 12 years in the waiting (16 years if you include Mr Coxon) but finally the wait is over, Blur have a new album coming out (April 27) titled ‘The Magic Whip’ and MIMR has immense joy that this has happened. ‘Go Out’ will be a winner with Blur’s dedicated fan base as well as reaching out to new fans in abundance I’m sure. It’s instantly identifiable as a Blur track, it’s a perfect mix of excellent guitar solos and a sing a long chorus which Damon Albarn is a genius at achieving. It’s what every fan wanted and MIMR knows that this new material potentially could be the best in their, already, illustrious career
The Sherlocks ‘Escapade’
We head to Sheffield where we find The Sherlocks, a four piece who consist of two sets of brothers and being touted by many as the next big Indie band to knock on the door of the big time. With previous single ‘Live For The Moment’ breaching the top 100 chart, they seems to be on track and new Single ‘Escapade’ only enhances their ever-growing reputation. It’s a dance floor filler of the highest standard and a foot stomper if ever I heard one. It’s indie at its best and MIMR likes it. Everyone move out of the way ‘The Sherlocks’ are coming through!
Surfer Blood ‘Dorian’
Surfer Blood return with this recent released track taken from their upcoming 3rd studio album ‘1000 Palms’ which will hit your record stores on May 12. This Florida Alt-rock group have already excelled at giving us some fantastic melodic songs and their new material fits perfectly into their already impressive back catalogue. Surf-rock and pop rolled into one, which will ensure that they’re be many more smiles on faces come May time
MIMR was fortunate enough to catch Bad Grammar’s set @ Sound Control, Manchester tonight (18th February) and what a set it was. This Manchester duo will be MIMR featured band for March and a video from this gig of their new single ‘Clown’ will be released on the blog next month. Here are a few pics from tonight’s gig
